Madang and Dylup Plantation and fishing around KarKar Island
As we neared Madang we flew over and around the smoking and still active volcanic Manum Island about 50 miles from KarKar Island.
Brett Middleton was at Madang to drive us up to his guest house at Dylup - about 2 hours out of town .
We stayed there overnight and next morning we boarded his 38foot Stebercraft gameboat to fish around Bagabag Island.
We trolled most of the day and PK caught ,tagged and released a 300 pound Blue Marlin . We had some luck with some nice sized Mackeral and also a few 'Rainbow Runners'.
That night we steamed into the idealic tropical island paradise of Kar Kar Island . Kar Kar is a large volcanic Island that rises to nearly 7,000 feet high and has a population of about 50,000 people - most of whom work on copra plantations,
We stayed at Brett's brother, Derek's place in a couple of guest houses right on the black sand beaches and enjoyed a few cold SP Lagers while swapping fishing stories.
The next day we continued fishing and I caught , tagged and released a 320 pound Black Marlin.

Sunrise over Bagabag Island
the island near Kar Kar Is. is the rim of a volcanoe with one section blasted out in an eruption to form a sheltered bay. to the north of the island lies an underwater mountain rising from 500 metres deep up to 50 metres - makes a great fishing spot!
